A set of comprehensive competences for those who
work in early childhood and family mental health are now available in Vermont.
They describe the skills, knowledge, and attitudes professionals need to have
when addressing the needs of young children and their families with social,
emotional, or behavioral challenges. Individuals may find these competences
useful in assessing their own levels of competence or agency may want to use
them to evaluate applicants or new employees relative to staff development
needs.
The competencies cover six (6) domains on four (4) levels, thus making them
useful to a broad range of individuals and organizations providing services to
or advocating on behalf of young children and their families.
